When the Sun and Moon Said Goodnight

The Moon came out as Sun went down,
And passed a quiet sigh.
He said, “I wish that you could stay
To watch the dark drift by.”

The Sun replied with glowing eyes,
And said, “Don’t worry, friend.
I’ll be back with morning light
When nighttime finds its end.”

They shared a smile, both soft and wide,
Then drifted, star to flame.
And every night, they played this part —
Though nothing stayed the same.

The Moon rose high with velvet steps,
And stars began to hum.
They shimmered in the silver dark,
And drummed a midnight drum.

He whispered songs to sleeping hills,
To oceans deep and wide.
He danced on roofs and riverbanks,
And lit the world with pride.

But still he missed the golden warmth
That filled the skies at dawn —
A quiet ache he kept inside
Until the dark was gone.

And sure enough, the Sun returned,
Bright fingers on the glen.
The tired Moon began to fade,
And tucked himself again.

The Sun cast light on waking fields
And brushed the mountaintops.
She warmed the wings of early birds
And kissed the dewdrop crops.

She smiled down on the forest floor,
And sang the flowers new.
But always glanced toward distant skies
Where Moon once softly flew.

And so they spun — two kindred hearts
In rhythm, light and shade.
Each day they passed like secret notes
That Time and stars had made.

The Moon would always rise again
When golden day was through.
And every dusk, he’d lift his eyes
And wait for morning’s hue.

He never felt alone for long
The Sun was never far.
They spoke in beams and lunar tides,
In sunrise, dream, and star.
