Slim Pickings By MissT. (Today’s feelings)

Today, an ex contacted me out of the blue—same old charm, same old script. He offered nothing but a reminder of the woman I used to be. I’ve grown since then. This poem is what came next.

Slim Pickings
by MissT

He came back with the same old line,
A flicker of charm, soaked in slime.
“Friends with benefits,” he said with a grin,
As if I’d forgotten where we’d been.

I used to bend, to break, to bleed,
For whispers that masked a selfish need.
But now I carry my worth like flame,
I don’t dance with a man who’s caused me pain.

I told him plain, then closed the door,
No cracks left open like before.
His reach felt hollow, his words so thin—
A ghost knocking, not getting in.

I wished him peace, then made it mine,
Blocked the noise, reclaimed my spine.
Let him drift in his shallow sea—
No respect for him, but some for me.

Outro:
Growth isn’t always loud—sometimes, it’s the quiet click of a block button. The choice not to go back. The voice that says, “Not this time.” I’m not who I was. And that’s the win.
