[Her voice]
I saw a face, a smile so fierce,
My heart’s protective layer pierced.
His hair was soft like meadow grass,
His eyes, a green hue of shining glass.

[His voice]
I saw her hands, so soft, so brave,
Reach out to pull me from my grave.
Her voice, a light I could not face
Too bright to touch, too full of grace.

[Her voice]
But as I got to see him more,
I saw his broken soul at war.
His mind was worn with burdens old,
His life—an addict—left him cold.

[His voice]
She called me home with open arms,
But I mistook her love for harm.
Each time she stayed, I turned to stone
A haunted man afraid to own.

[Her voice]
He laughed like thunder chasing rain,
But silence always came again.
The dreams he had were stitched in rust,
Each promise cracked beneath the dust.

[His voice]
My laughter fooled, my silence screamed.
She saw the cracks where I had dreamed.
But rust runs deep and won’t let go
Of men who drowned in years ago.

[Her voice]
I reached with hands that meant to heal,
But found a man too numb to feel.
So now I write, not out of spite,
But just to name what died in light.

[His voice]
She tried to name what I forgot
That I was more than all I’m not.
Yet ghosts don’t hold what light once gave,
They linger near but can’t be saved.
