my childhood memories
by MissT
Looking down at knee-length socks,
Bright red shoes and floral frocks.
Little fingers. Chubby cheeks.
Teddy bears that still I keep.
Lino cold upon the floor,
Dee Minor Dresses I once wore
Flairy trousers. Rah-rah skirts.
Pasty shoes and chequered shirts.
Leather seats and radios,
Elvis blasting, stereo.
SodaStreams and crazy straws,
Wooden chests with wicker drawers.
Poker sets beside the fire,
Coals are smouldering — never tire.
Chopper bikes and Sindy dolls,
Daffodils and knitted shawls.
ABBA playing Dancing Queen,
Milk bottles mean the milkman’s been.
Coloured slabs and roller skates,
Stoppers on the front for brakes.
Bagpuss purring on the screen,
PlaySchool, then Jackanory’s theme.
Marbles, conkers, “kiss me quick,”
Dallas — “Who shot J.R.?” quip.
Only Fools and Horses cries,
Action Man with moving eyes.
Tonka trucks and dinky cars,
Star Trek ships that shot to Mars.
Long sideburns and wild beards,
Val Doonican — his cardies weird!
Bernie and his dog Schnorbitz,
Rod and Emu’s causing fits!
Spit the Dog, Bob Carolgees,
Pedal pushers tight at knees.
Spam and beef inside a stew,
Tetley teabags see us through.
Sunday dinner, Sunday tea,
Jelly, blancmange — all wobbly.
Tales of the Unexpected sings,
TARDIS, Daleks, K9 wins.
Bionic Man and Woman too,
Johnny Morris at the zoo.
Play Away and Hartley Hare,
Cousin Itt with too much hair.
The seventies — best times ever,
And I will remember them forever
