Rain bounced off the bonnet until Mina could barely see the road. The lights glowed half-heartedly, and the cats eyes glared back like ghost eyes. A long day—ended by a bitter row over a parking space—had left her nerves frayed and the winding bends made her anxious.Suddenly, as she rounded a sharp corner, a shadow lunged into the beams.Mina stomped the brakes. The car skidded, screaming against the wet asphalt, missing the man by a fraction of an inch. Heart hammering against her ribs, she watched him stumble toward the window.”My fault, Miss…” he began, breathless.Their eyes locked. The ghost eyes on the road were nothing compared to the shock of recognition. Mina knew him instantly. Her ex. Their gaze turned to wary smiles as he got into the car. She knew this was just the beginning of the story.
