The Truth About the Lies

This is why I had to leave:
I could have faced the addiction.
I could have stood by you through the struggle to get clean.
I could have loved you through the darkest parts of your habits.

But I cannot stand beside a man who refuses to be honest with me — or with himself.

The lies made it impossible to help you.

Lies are walls.
Every time you lied about the drinking, the gambling, or seeing your ex,
you built another wall between us.
I was fighting for you on the outside,
while you were sabotaging us from the inside.

The lie is the addiction’s bodyguard.
You lied to protect your ability to keep using and deceiving.
As long as you were lying,
I wasn’t just fighting you
I was fighting the addiction’s mechanism for survival.

A partnership requires truth.
I needed the truth to stand by you.
Instead, you gave me lies, betrayal, and cruelty when I caught you.
That showed me you valued your dishonesty over my well-being.

I was willing to love the man struggling with addiction.
But I could not stay with the deceiver who actively chose to hurt me.
I deserve an honest life.
And your lies made that impossible.
