My Fire Waits

Your touch is rare; your words don’t come.
They drift like smoke across your tongue.
The wine runs red, the cigarette burns low;
still, there is more you’ve yet to know.

Days collapse and fall to weeks,
and my attention slips, it seeks
a place where love is simple, sure,
where care is steady, feeling pure.

I want you—yet I sit here lonely,
waiting to be your one and only.
Take this chance; let a lonely man fall.
Come now, or don’t come at all.

I’ve been patient, but patience thins.
The match is struck
my love is burning from within.

So take my hand before it’s gone,
this love burns fast but not for long.
Choose me now, and let’s begin
my fire waits to draw you in.
