Unwritten Wounds
by MissT
No message, no call, no check-in to say
“I’m you doing alright since you walked away”
I showed up in fear when I thought you were gone
But you vanished like dusk at the break of the dawn
You call it your pride, I call it a wall
A fortress of silence, too scared to fall
Too proud for an “I’m sorry,” too weak for the truth
You vanished like men who mistake it for proof
I was the calm in your mess, the light in your storm
The fire that flickered when life lost its form
You stayed in the shadows, too quiet, too cold
I needed a man, not a silence that scolds
I thought you were dead from that twisted text
My mind went wild, my heart perplexed
I rushed to your door, breath caught in my chest
And there you lay, in your silent rest
No clue of the fear you’d set in my soul
While I fell apart, losing control
You slept like the world hadn’t shattered for me
So calm, while I drowned in your cruelty
I was there when I thought you’d taken your life
Tears in my throat, cut deeper than a knife
And what did I see through the panic and dread
My name on your heart marked in red.

But I won’t be the echo that begs you to see
Or the woman who waits where her love used to be
I gave you my all, now I’m burning what’s left
You’re the ghost in my story
and that girl is dead
