The Night Demon

The Night Demon

The lane was dark, stretched long and deep,

Where shadows crouched and spiders creep.

Their hairy legs, the beady stare

Eyes blinking from the hedgerow’s lair.

Two steps in, a sudden snap,

A rustle. Breath caught in the trap.

Was it real, or just my mind?

Panic rising, thoughts entwined.

Heartbeat quicker, picked up my speed,

The air grew thick with fear and need.

Then from the dark, a face appeared

His gaze was cold, his presence near.

His hand reached out, it found my hair,

I screamed—but silence choked the air.

He whispered, “You are mine, my dear,”

And gripped me tight in ghostly fear.

I turned to see his hollow face

I flinched to feel his cold embrace

His eyes were shining, unflinching stare

My muscles froze in cold night air.

I screamed again, no noise heard

His hands pulled tight and not a word

He muttered you are mine forever now

And I scrambled to break free somehow

We struggled for what seemed for hours

I punched him hard, and then he cowered

I took my chance and ran so fast

I thought this moment was my last

I ran through night with pounding feet,

Afraid I’d die before retreat.

I glanced behind—he knelt and growled,

A twisted shape, a furrowed brow

The hate burned bright behind his eyes,

A gnarly grin, with muffled cries.

I ran for hours, breath long gone,

Relief ahead—the breaking dawn.

But as I neared my own front gate,

He stood there still, as if to wait

I closed my eyes. The air went still.

The silence deeper than the chill.

Then with a jolt, I broke the seam

And woke alone. A haunted dream.
