Where Willows Weep

DIVORCED, DAMAGED AND DANGEROUS

By MissT

Where willows weep and ivy clings
To roof and weathered beams
Where roses bow beneath the moon
And drift in silver dreams

Where once a voice would call me home
Across the garden green
Now foxes prowl the broken fence
With eyes too sharp, too keen

Where owls lament and spirits pass
Along the garden wall
The lamplight flickers through the mist
Then fades then dares to fall

Where lullabies have long gone hush
And birds in treetops hide
The branches knock on windowpanes
Like hands I brushed aside

Within the hush of midnight’s grip
Among these haunted themes
I watch the lawn I count the stars
I wait for morning beams

For nighttime is a keeper now
Of things I cannot name
Like mother’s voice and childhood songs
That whisper back her name
