Ben was my first — with eyes like the sea,
A Siamese prince who belonged just to me.
He’d perch on my bed like a royal guest,
Purring his wisdom, never second best.
Penny came later, all scruff and delight,
Like Sandy from Annie, her tail full of fight.
She’d chase through the garden, bark at the air,
Mud on her paws and wind in her hair.
They were my joy when the world felt cold,
My secrets, my stories, the hands I could hold.
In a home full of noise or the silence of dread,
They curled up beside me and softened the dread.
Ben with his gaze that saw through my pain,
Penny, all wiggles, like sunshine through rain.
They didn’t need words — they just knew me whole,
Two little hearts stitched deep in my soul.
So here’s to the ones who gave more than they knew,
Who made childhood gentler, who carried me through.
Penny and Ben — my start, my crew,
The first ones who showed me what love could do.
